Belle Vue Island in Great Malvern comprises a number of terraced pathways supported by a terrace of Malvern Stone retaining walls. Damage has been noted to the Malvern stone walls at Belle Vue Island and in view of the significance of the damage measures should be taken to preserve the maintenance life of the structures. The ability of the walls to reduce the amount of ground water acting on to the rear of the walls will greatly reduce the pressure acting on to the rear of the walls over time and will assist in preventing against movement. The works involve a Road Closure Application for Wells Road and Church Street, allowing for safe operations with barriers and Chapter 8 Traffic management while maintaining one open lane. A CCTV drainage survey will assess and document stormwater drainage defects for remedial action, including gully inspections. Stonework repairs will address damage caused by London Plane tree roots and moisture, with reconstruction of the stone apron, small section of Malvern stone wall, and lower retaining ramp, utilising specified mortar mixes and finishes to match existing structures. Weep holes will be added to walls for drainage, and defective pointing will be removed and repointed.
