SSEN are the electricity Distribution Network Operator (DNO) responsible for delivering power to 3.8 million homes and businesses and homes across central southern England and the north of Scotland. We serve some of the most diverse and unique geographies across the UK, and keep customers and communities connected whilst developing the flexible electricity network vital to achieving net zero. Our North of Scotland licence area (SHEPD) covers 25% of the UK land mass but is most sparsely populated Distribution Network Operator (DNO) in Great Britain, with roughly 14 customers per square km. It includes 59 remote island communities supplied and interconnected through 110 subsea cables with the combined length of 454km. We currently own and operate seven Distributed Embedded Generation (DEG) & 1 Thermal Embedded Generation (TEM), sites which provide continuity of services if the cables supplying the islands are on outage or have faulted TEM sites currently operate 24/7 as the main source of power for Shetland but is scheduled to be a standby site in the future. Currently diesel-powered units were established in the 1950’s before the use of subsea cables when on outage and following faults, especially to island communities. We are looking for supplier’s who are capable to provide support across the DEG & TEM sites for mechanical works this will include welding, fabrication, spares and tank maintenance.
