In winter 2023, in a bid to reduce the environmental impact of the Cheltenham Ice Rink, Cheltenham Borough Council commissioned an innovative power solution. The hybrid set-up utilised a high-capacity mobile battery, the existing onsite power supply and an efficient and silenced generator fuelled with hydrotreated vegetable oil. This proved hugely effective and led to a notable reduction in both CO2e and noise emissions compared to the previous rink and industry standards. Cheltenham Borough Council is looking to implement the same solution for 2024 and has developed the specification based upon knowledge and experience gained in delivery of the project in 2023. The same suppliers will be used for provision of the ice rink, S3K, and the battery, KoniK. Cheltenham Borough Council is now seeking a supplier to provide the generator and fuel management service.
